Anchor Bay Entertainment racks up 11 Saturn Awards and Fangoria Chainsaw Awards nominations
Anchor Bay Entertainment, the industry leader in home entertainment horror and cult film programming, is very proud to announce receiving an astounding eleven nominations for its films from the Academy of Science Fiction , Fantasy and Horror Films, and the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards.
The 2009 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards awarded last year’s cult favorite Jack Brooks Monster Slayer with six nominations, tieing with Hellboy II for the most nods. JBMS was nominated for Best Limited-Release Direct-to- DVD Film, Best Actor (Trevor Matthews), Best Supporting Actor (Robert Englund), Best Screenplay (John Ainslie, Jon Knautz), Best Score (Ryan Shore) and Best Makeup/Creature FX (David Scott). “Dollhouse’s” Eliza Dushku was nominated in the Best Actress category for her critically-acclaimed turn as a police detective on the edge of madness in Rob Schmidt’s The Alphabet Killer, and Marc Senter received a Best Actor nod for his performance as a suburban psychopath in Chris Sivertson’s The Lost. The 2009 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards nomination ballot can be found in the current issue of Fangoria Magazine, and at Fangoria.com.
In announcing the 35th annual Saturn Awards nominations, the Academy cited Anchor Bay ’s Cold Prey and Jack Brooks Monster Slayer for Best DVD Release and Heathers 20th Anniversary Reunion Edition for Best DVD Classic Film Release.
“It’s doubly fantastic! I am really grateful for both the Saturn Award and Chainsaw Awards nominations. Jack Brooks was a fun project to make and I am really proud of the whole experience,” said star/producer Trevor Matthews. “To be recognized and supported for the work everyone did, is very rewarding. I guess now, we will have to keep making movies!”
“Eliza Dushku went to difficult, dark places; she exposed herself and made herself really vulnerable for her role in Alphabet Killer," remarked director Rob Schmidt. “I'm proud of her work and I'm very pleased that her work is being acknowledged by Fangoria's nomination.”
“Thanks to the Saturn Awards for honoring Cold Prey,” said Scott Einbinder, Co-CEO of Leomax Entertainment. “We are proud to be associated with director Roar Uthaug’s movie and glad we have been able to bring this stylish and scary horror movie to genre fans throughout the US .”
Marc Senter from The Lost: “I was totally surprised to hear that I was nominated for Best Actor for a Chainsaw award, especially when I saw who was in my category! I remember going to the Awards in 2006 with my buddy Ti West and having a total blast but secretly wishing I was in on the action. I guess I am now! Much love and respect to the folks at Fango for being so supportive of The Lost. You guys are amazing and we really appreciate it.”
In addition, two of the stars and the writer/director of the upcoming April 21st Anchor Bay DVD release Laid To Rest received Saturn Award and Chainsaw Award nominations. Lena Headey and Thomas Dekker were nominated for Saturn Awards, as Best Actress in Television and Best Supporting Actor in Television respectively, for their work on the Fox TV series “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.” Robert Hall, LTR’s writer/director, received a Fangoria Chainsaw nomination for Best Makeup/Creature FX for his work in the feature film Quarantine.
Anchor Bay Entertainment thanks both the Academy of Science Fiction , Fantasy and Horror Films and the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards for the nominations and congratulates the nominees on their recognition.
The 35th annual Saturn Awards ceremony will take place June 25th. The Fangoria Chainsaw Awards winners will be announced in issue #285 of Fangoria Magazine, on sale in June.
