Trailers From Hell Sets South By Southwest Film Festival Ablaze
March 9, 2009 - Joe Dante’s Metaluna Productions, Elizabeth Stanley Pictures and HY Entertainment Group proudly announce the screening of The Best of Trailers from Hell (TFH), at the South By Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas. Trailers from Hell is an on-going series showcasing classic movie Previews of Coming Attractions delivered online and via mobile devices throughout the world. The screening - an evening of original, vintage movie trailers accompanied by amusing and insightful commentary by some of Hollywood's top filmmakers - will be hosted by series creator, feature film director Joe Dante, (Gremlins), who will also field questions after the presentation. Among many others, the program includes Dante dishing about the 1950s sci-fi spectacle This Island Earth as well as the unsung suspense classic The Sadist, John Landis (American Werewolf In London) basking in the pop music glory of The T.A.M.I. Show, Edgar Wright (Shaun Of The Dead) praising one of his seminal influences, Danger: Diabolik, and Eli Roth (Hostel) explaining the ineffable mysteries of Three on a Meathook. Dante notes "The bromide about these old trailers is that they were better than the movies they promoted. That's only true in some cases, but they did deliver in-your-face excitement and breathless hyperbole at a pace the movies never could. I got my start in the movies cutting trailers at the tail end of the so-called Golden Age, before the ad agencies and focus groups took over." “SXSW's inclusion of Trailers from Hell in its 2009 line-up illustrates what true convergence represents in the modern age of media” says Producer Jonas Hudson. According to producer Elizabeth Stanley, "Trailers from Hell is tailor-made for the South By Southwest 'Midnighters' audience. It combines a fun, live experience with one America’s most popular horror/fantasy directors along with 90 minutes of content hosted by Hollywood professionals who are in this only because they love movies. "The Best of Trailers from Hell" will screen at SXSW at midnight on Monday, March 16,2009 at the Alamo Ritz 1 which is located 320 East 6th Street in Austin. The screening is open to all SXSW Film Badgeholders on a first-come, first-serve basis, followed by SXSW Film Festival Pass Holders. Should any remaining seats be left, they will be sold to the public, starting 15 minutes before the screening. Trailers From Hell releases 3 new episodes per week and can be found at www.trailersfromhell.com.
